The lempäälä canal is located in the centre of Lempäälä, and it was built between 1867-1874. Finland's first contemporary timber rafting and regulatory canal was renovated to its current form around 50 years ago. The canal that connects Pyhäjärvi and Vanajavesi lakes is 1,275 metres long and its locks are used up to 3000 times a year. The canal is operated on the principle of self-service. Besides Silverline's boats, there are numerous leisure boats sailing in the popular inland water route.
